Meet Bruce: Our Newest Staff Member!

We have some pretty cool news today. It's something we've been waiting to tell you for a long time and we're so excited that we can finally share it.

RISE is so excited to welcome our newest staff member: Bruce Camble. Bruce's official title is Coordinator of Community Engagement.

We connect with our community in many ways -- through worship and mission and Embrace Groups, but recently we discerned that something was still missing. There was still an aspect of the community with which we weren't effectively connecting. We decided we could do better.

So we hired Bruce.

Bruce's primary responsibility is to connect with the community by taking your selfies for you.

Not only will this free you to see the world around you instead of living life through a screen, but it will also get you some pretty sweet selfies, a bump in your Instagram likes and followers, and will allow you to spend much more time on important things like binge-watching Netflix. (After all, science says that on average, we spend 180 minutes every year taking selfies. That's 3 episodes of House of Cards!)

So each day, Bruce will be out in the community taking selfies ... for you for free. He'll be wearing a beret, a RISE t-shirt and holding a smart phone, so he should be pretty easy to spot.

"I'm just really excited about this new venture," Bruce said. "Selfies take up so much time and effort. I think God is really calling me to this. It's my way to give back and help people Snapchat so much more efficiently."

Amanda (the RISE pastor) said, "Now I can spend more time meeting people, planning for Sunday mornings and being the leader I've longed to be for years. Before I met Bruce, I had no idea how much time I was wasting on Snapchat and Instagram. He'll do that for me now so I can do the things that really matter. He is truly an answer to prayer."

Bruce's first day on the job is Tuesday April 1. He recently moved to Harrisonburg from Austin, TX with his wife Mary and three-year-old guinea pig, Horace.

Oh ... and one more thing ... Happy April Fools' Day from your friends at RISE!
